Joan STEPHENSON - Interviewed on 27 March 2000. Moreton Bay Our Story, accessed 07/12/2025, https://ourstory.moretonbay.qld.gov.au/nodes/view/53141
In this interview, Joan Stephenson reminisces about life in Strathpine, including the Normanby rum distillery, the war years, her family's butcher business, and her community service. Joan fondly describes community traditions, such as swimming at Sweeney’s Reserve on hot nights, which attracted locals and visitors from Brisbane. She also remembers Sweeney’s kiosk and its owner, Patsy, who was well-regarded in the community.
We respectfully acknowledge the Traditional Country across our region. We also acknowledge and pay our respects
to the Kabi Kabi, Jinibara and Turrbal Traditional Custodians, and their elders past, present and emerging.
