This project was undertaken by the Albem - John Hull Joint Venture team on behalf of Queensland's Main Roads Dept. Over seventy-six years, three bridges have been built to cross Bramble Bay from the Redcliffe suburb of Clontarf. Each bridge in its own time was the longest in Australia. First was the wooden Hornibrook Highway, followed by the Houghton Highway, and finally the new bridge, officially named the Ted Smout Memorial Bridge. In 2011, the first-built bridge was demolished, but a 100 metre section was reconstructed on the north side of the bay, using the bridge's original timber.
