Arthur's parents were Robert Speedy and Eliza/Elizabeth Gallagher. Arthur married Jane Gilfoyle in 1894 at Brisbane, they had a son in 1898. Arthur was living at Enoggera and working as a Grocer when he enlisted on 25 January 1916. Arthur's unit embarked from Brisbane, Queensland, on board HMAT A49 Seang Choon on 4 May 1916. He was admitted to hospital with Double Hallux Valgus, cartilage, bony, and soft-tissue damage to his feet. He was considered medically unfit and returned to Australia 17 July 1916. Arthur died aged 52 and is buried with his wife Jane.Birth date22 August 1870Death date23 January 1923
