His father had died in 1904 in Kilcoy. Charles was 19 years old, working as a timber getter and living at Woodford, Queensland, when he enlisted on 13 January 1916. His unit embarked from Brisbane, Queensland, on board HMAT Clan McGillivray on 1 May 1916 and he returned to Australia on 6 April 1919. Charles married Edith Nellie Stevens in October 1924 and they settled in Mt Gravatt, Brisbane, Queensland.Birth date24 January 1897Death date18 August 1982
