His father had died in 1897 and his mother then married James Joseph Haylan in 1906. Edward was 24 years old, working as a Police Constable and living in Brisbane when he enlisted in February 1915. He embarked with the 4th Lighthorse Field Ambulance as a Farrier Corporal in June 1915 and returned to Australia on 20 April 1919. After the war, Edward took up farming at Fairview, Upper Caboolture with his mother and two sisters, Amelia Gladys and Irene Annette, and remained in the area until his death.Birth date21 January 1891Death date15 September 1971
