Alfred's parents were Alfred Dobson and Annie Ruth Allerton of Peak Farm, Morayfield, Queensland. He was single, working as a timber getter and living with his parents at the time of his enlistment in January 1916. Alfred was wounded in action three times. After the war he returned to Morayfield and married Ivy Ellen Peters in September 1922 and they lived in the Morayfield area. He married Lydia Stieler in 1946.
