Archibald's parents were David Laughland Brown and Marian Wight. He was living at Cardwell when he enlisted on 18 September 1915. Archibald's brothers were listed on the electoral roll as living at Cedar Creek. Archie obtained the rank of Corporal while on training. On 1 January 1917 Archibald was reported missing. It was discovered that he was a prisoner of war on 2 February 1917 and interred at Friedrichsfeld, Limberg Germany. Archibald returned to Cardwell and continued working as a farmer.
