Arthur Pollard Johnson was the son of Edmund Johnson and Sophie Bates. Both his parents had died and his older brother, Edmund, was listed as next of kin. He was single, living at Herberton, Queensland, and his occupation was listed as a cook at the time he enlisted in January 1916.
