Edwin Audrey was the ninth child and sixth son of Richard William Buckby and Clara Edith Smith of Narangba, Queensland. He was single, working as a labourer and living with his parents when he enlisted. After the war he married Margaret Catherine Campbell on 28 January 1922, daughter of Colin Campbell and Christina Shaw.
