John's parents were Charles Kelly and Mary Diamond. John enlisted 18 January 1916 at Toowoomba. John served in the 41st Battalion, D Company, with Albert Thistlewaite from Samsonvale, John Randall from Albany Creek/Strathpine, Alfred McAfee from Samford and Luke Coe from Strathpine. All four serviceman joined within weeks of each other. John died of wounds in 1918 in France.
