Richard Henry was the son of Richard Henry Harris and Phoebe Godfrey who lived at Anderson Street, Valley, Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted in June 1915 age 18 years 11 months without his parent's consent and was discharged on 10 January 1916. Richard re-enlisted in January 1916 stating his age as 21 year and 10 months.
