William's parents were William James Pritchard and Sarah Jane Littlefield. William attended Mt Pleasant School, and with his brothers was among the first children to attend. The Pritchard family was pioneers of Mt Pleasant. William was living at Mt Pleasant and working as a farmer when he enlisted on 14 January 1918. As he was under 21 his parents have to consent for him to enlist. William married Irene Alice Rosspigaroff in 1929 who were also a pioneering family. His brothers Edward James [5512] and Joseph Henry [521] also enlisted, with all three brothers returning home.
