TitleAPM Hostel near completionDescriptionIt was expected that the seemingly remote location of the Petrie Mill site would create problems with obtaining a suitable workforce. In an attempt to address this issue APM allocated land on the then edge of Petrie township for a Hostel complex to house up to 140 workmen. Construction of the complex began in 1951 and consisted of a main building with a manager's flat, cooking, dining and lounge facilities and semi detached wings of amenities and accommodation units. The photograph shows the main building near completion. The initial concerns in regards to sourcing a workforce proved baseless. In 1957, when production commenced at the Mill, the hostel accommodation was no longer required. The main building was then used by APM and the community for functions. Some of the buildings were removed with two remaining wings and land leased to the Pine Rivers Junior Rugby League Club.PhotographerAustralian Paper ManufacturersCollectorAustralian Paper ManufacturersRecord typePhotographFormat typeDigitalOriginal format colourBlack and white
