The cost of a wheelchair had been beyond Darcy's reach so the Mill Club stepped in and arranged a wheelchair for him. The Mill Club then realised others in the ward were in the same predicament. Employees and staff adopted the paraplegic patients of Ward 57 and the Petrie Mill Club raised funds to purchase chairs.
