TitleRoad construction at Ocean View, ca. early 1930sDescriptionThe Mt Mee Road was constructed between 1930 and 1933. On 9 August 1929 it was announced by the Minister for Railways and Roads (Mr Godfrey Morgan) that plans were complete for the construction of the first section of the new main Brisbane-Gympie Road between Dayboro and Mt Mee. Work would begin immediately and they intended to demonstrate the use of some new steam shovels on this work. In October 1929 approval was given for earthworks, drainage, metalling, fencing and gates at a cost of 6,535 pounds ($13,070.00). About 15 local men were employed on the construction in addition to contractors. The length of the section was 12 miles and the cost per mile was about 5,000 pounds. Work was very slow because of the rocky terrain and landslides were a problem.Dateca. 1931CollectorChambers, Stanley JohnRecord typePhotographFormat typePhysicalOriginal format colourColour
