Caboolture South (Qld.)
DETAILS
NameCaboolture South (Qld.)DescriptionIn May 1997 Caboolture Shire Council sent a letter and an attached map proposing a new locality of Caboolture South for comment from businesses and residents. Since Caboolture Shire Council's adoption of the Morayfield/Caboolture boundary (at Michael Avenue) in 1978, confusion existed as to whether this area south of the Caboolture River was part of Morayfield or Caboolture. This area was originally part of the locality of Caboolture. At Caboolture Shire Council Meeting dated 17 June 1997 Council adopted the proposed new locality of Caboolture Shire. The formalisation was completed when it was named and bounded by the Minister for Natural Resources and Minister for Mines, 14 December 2001. Regazetted by the Minister for Natural Resources, Mines and Energy on the 19 June 2009 due to the council amalgamations under the Local Government Reform Implementation Act 2007.
A part of Caboolture South was known as Waytown. Waytown Estate was created ca. 1965 by Ken Duncombe, the owner of Portion 5, on the Eastern side of Morayfield Road in Jacaranda and Poinciana Street and 'Waytown' grew to incorporate the Western side of Morayfield Road as well, which included the streets of Torrens Road, Domnick Street, Frank Street, John Street, Rosemary Street, Queen Street, Moon Street and Mingaye Street and were developed in the 1970s. Over time this section on the Western side of Morayfield Road became more associated with the name Waytown and is still known by many residents as Waytown today.
The name comes from the only service station in Caboolture and was known as the Milky Way Servo, it had the best milkshakes in town. This was the only place to buy anything after the shops closed in 1979.
