The party walked from Ocean Beach to Caloundra. The holiday huts were constructed on the foreshore of Pumicestone Passage in 1918, just after WWI. The aim was to provide cheap holiday accommodation for visitors who did not wish to camp. In later years the 12 Apostles, as they became popularly known, were to provide more permanent accommodation to the island's pensioners.
