TitleMcLachlan's home and store in the Dixons Hill area, Redcliffe Road (later Anzac Avenue) Kallangur, mid 1890sDescriptionEuphemia and Hugh McLachlan are standing on the verandah, the three eldest daughters can be seen below - Mary Marion, Elizabeth (with dog) and Jane Turner. The building, which was demolished in the mid 1920s to provide timber for another family home at Wavell Heights, was located on the site of a later structure (also built by descendants of the McLachlans) which is still standing at 1220 Anzac Avenue. Euphemia McLachlan baked bread, scones and cakes so that refreshments could be served to passing travellers in an area set aside as a small cafe underneath the house. Hugh McLachlan (1844-1902) worked as an overseer on roadworks during the late 1800s. Euphemia McLachlan (nee McMillan) (1858-1942) was the only midwife in the Kallangur area and travelled at all hours as far afield as Redcliffe and Deception Bay by horse and sulky to assist Doctors Shellshear, Bancroft and Brockway. Macs Lane, in the Kallangur area not far from the site of this building, was named after the McLachlan and McMillan families.
