What was uppermost in the minds of those people who would support any move in this direction was that the Memorial should be something of magnitude, out in the open, and preferably be of use and benefit to the community, both present and in the future. With the expansion of motor transport following the War, an obvious choice centered around the selection of a road as a suitable project on which to base the Memorial.
