Alfred Thomas Atkinson was the son of James McClure and Mary Elizabeth Tinney who lived in Upper Caboolture, Queensland. He was single, working as a labourer and living in Upper Caboolture, Queensland, at the time of his enlistment in August 1915. He embarked in January 1916 but returned in November 1916 after being wounded in action.
