Richard and Mary Jane French and their children Richard, John, William and Benjamin, arrived in Moreton Bay on the Indus on 29 December 1874. Their oldest daughter Elizabeth did not come with them. Another four children were born whilst the family was at Bald Hills. Richard French was born in 1844 at Tyanee, Londonderry, Northern Ireland to parents Benjamin French and Bessie McMullin. Mary Jane McEwan was born in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland to parents John McEwan and Mary Ferguson. On 3 April 1884 Richard French selected Portion 34 Parish of Pine, containing an area of 160 acres, at Mt Pleasant. Refer to MBPS-0003-060 for a photograph of their third child John (Jack) French.
