Red stamps
The world’s first adhesive postage stamp used in a public postal system was the Penny Black. These stamps were black with red cancellation ink. The red ink could be easily removed, and the stamp reused. After testing alternative colours the Penny stamp changed colour to red and became known as the Penny Red.
